Why Fruits Are Important in Our Daily Life

Many of us eat fruits every day, but we often do not know their exact nutritional value, health benefits, or the proper way to eat them. Fruits play a very important role in keeping our body healthy, yet they are sometimes ignored in our regular diet.

When we fall sick, doctors usually recommend fruits and a low-fat diet because fruits are easy to digest and provide essential nutrients that help the body fight infections. So why not include fruits in our daily diet chart, even when we are healthy?

In this blog, I will share detailed information about different fruits, their nutrition, benefits, and the best way to consume them in everyday life.

What Are Fruits?

Fruits are the seed-bearing structures of flowering plants. In simple language, fruits are the fleshy parts of plants that may taste sweet or sour and are usually eaten raw.

Common examples of fruits include apple, banana, orange, and many others that we eat daily.

Types of Fruits

1. Fleshy Fruits

Fleshy fruits have soft, juicy, and pulpy tissue. In these fruits, the outer layer (pericarp) becomes fleshy.

Examples include:

  • Apple

  • Orange

  • Berries

2. Dry Fruits

Dry fruits have a hard or dry outer covering. In these fruits, the pericarp becomes dry instead of fleshy.

Examples include:

  • Cashew nuts

  • Almonds

  • Walnuts

Nutritional Value of Fruits

Most fruits are naturally low in fat, sodium, and calories. Eating fruits daily helps reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.

Fruits are rich sources of important nutrients such as:

  • Potassium

  • Dietary fiber

  • Vitamin C

  • Folate (folic acid)

🍌 Potassium

Fruits rich in potassium help maintain healthy blood pressure.
Examples include bananas, prunes, dried apricots, melons, and orange juice.

🌾 Fiber

Fiber from fruits helps lower blood cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart disease. It also improves digestion and prevents constipation.
Note: Fruit juices contain little or no fiber.

🍊 Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential for:

  • Growth and repair of body tissues

  • Healing wounds

  • Keeping teeth and gums healthy

🩸 Folate

Folate helps the body produce red blood cells and supports overall health.

When Is the Best Time to Eat Fruits?

The best time to eat fruits is in the morning, preferably after drinking a glass of water.

Eating fruits immediately after a heavy meal is not recommended, as digestion and nutrient absorption may not be proper.

Best timing tips:

  • Eat fruits 30 minutes before a meal

  • Or 2 hours after a meal

  • People with diabetes or acidity should be extra careful with timing

How Much Fruit Should We Eat Per Day?

The general recommendation is:

  • At least 400 grams of fruits per day, or

  • 5 servings of 80 grams each

One 80-gram serving is roughly the size of a tennis ball, or about 1 cup of cut fruit.
